Guys – revolutionise your shaving routine with a quality aftershave balm. Our choice: Montblanc Legend Spirit.

So, before we get started, what are the differences between aftershave lotion and aftershave balm?

Basically, aftershave lotion is an antiseptic that has a lingering perfume, while aftershave balm is a hydrating lotion with a mild scent that typically goes away soon after application. Since aftershave splashes are usually alcohol-based astringents, they often tighten and dry out the skin. If you’re prone to cuts and your skin tends to dry out after shaving, you’re best off going with a quality, hydrating balm.

Balms are really easy to use. Once you’re finished shaving, rinse off the remaining shaving cream and splash your face with cold water. Use a towel to pat your face dry, then apply a small dab of aftershave balm. (Depending on the thickness of the product, you can use anywhere from a pea-sized amount to a pound coin-sized amount.)

Gently massage it into your skin. The whole process takes just a few seconds but can make the difference between a smooth, high-quality shave and one rife with red bumps and razor burn.

Our review team recently tested Montblanc Legend Spirit Aftershave Balm. Legend Spirit, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the product, is the latest version of Mont Blanc’s excellent Legend range. It really lightens up the original’s woody notes, adding grapefruit (of course) alongside bergamot, white musk, lavender and oakmoss.

Our reviewer found that not only did it do a fabulous job of soothing irritated skin after shaving, it left his skin feeling soft, fresh and gorgeously scented. In fact, not only was our reviewer impressed with those aspects of the product, but the price represents great value, as it’s 150ml while most aftershaves balms are 75ml, and often more expensive.

In summary – great feel, great aroma, great price, great product!
